October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month!!
In 1987, October became recognized as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This recognition affords an opportunity to bring awareness of the widespread presence of domestic violence, to come together as a community to bring about change, and especially a time to honor Survivors and Victims that have lost their lives due to domestic violence. Every October, hundreds of Domestic Violence Awareness activities are planned. Nationally, statewide, and community based, domestic violence prevention and victim service organizations host education campaigns, community events, conferences and more. October is treasured as the time for Unity Home to hold our Annual Domestic Violence Awareness Event. Please join us for the Early Bird Bid opportunity, October 25-29 at our Outreach Office in Yucca Valley & online main event Auction from Oct. 29-Oct 31, to win your favorite auction items; everything from art to gift baskets to delicious desserts! Please support victims of domestic violence & their children, by supporting MBUH, Inc.
Client Success Story
Client and her children came to Unity Home fearful and without familial support. During the course of her stay with Unity Home, this client was able to strengthen the bond with her children, created a personal house schedule to maintain structure in the future, and became a more empowered and confident woman. This Client's stay with Unity Home provided opportunity for a new job, and a place of her own. Unity Home Shelter afforded this Client strength to face the abuser in court. The children attended Youth Groups while in Shelter, learning new ways for effective communication with siblings and peers. This Client continues to enjoy family time with the children and regularly attends Support Groups; even assisting a fellow survivor of domestic violence, by sharing recent education regarding red flags and the need for healthy habits. This Client remains in contact with Unity Home and continues to be an advocate for herself, while consistently providing updates of success, extending continued appreciation to Advocates & Morongo Basin Unity Home, Inc.
Safety Tip
If you are in an abusive situation at home, plan a signal with a trusted neighbor, such as flashing the lights on and off or hanging something out of the window. This will alert your neighbor to call 911 for help.
Thrift Store
Unity Home Thrift Store, created 15+ years ago; would not be possible without the donations and support of the Morongo Basin Community. Unity Home Thrift Store was created to help provide for the diverse needs of the Clients of Unity Home. Proceeds go directly into providing domestic violence support services.
