Life Like A Ledge
Unbeknownst to me, I have wrapped myself in a cocoon of caution,
Living in isolated life on an island of false safety,
Telling myself, the world, and all who would listen,
That I was fearless in the dace of the failure of passion,
That regardless of the fall, I would climb that mountain every time,
For the highs of love always outweighed the pain of hard landings.
Now Belatedly, I have seen the armor I have worn,
The shields carried, the talisman of imagined security,
Now all is clearer, for my heart is truly open,
Past pain purged through poetry and tears,
Wounds ripped raw, releasing the pus of denial,
The fear of one more disappointment.
I am hanging, once again, on the edge of the abyss,
Dangling over the gaping maw of the unknown, the unwanted, the unbidden.
Still, I know I will not fall far,
That a cushion of kindness awaits me
In the gentleness of your arms,
The grace of your touch,
and even as the darkness descends once again,
I trust in us, and know the landing will be softened,
For what awaits me now is only the ledge of love.
